The research purpose is to determine the characteristics of physical fitness and active participation in passing the GTO standards of students living in different regions of Russia and studying in technical, medical and humanitarian fields of training.
Methods and organization of the research. At different stages, from 411 to 900 students from three Russian universities took part in the study.
Research results and their discussion. From 45.0 to 58.7% of students took part in passing the GTO complex test standards. The main motive for first-year students to participate in passing the GTO complex test standards was the opportunity to get an additional point for the Unified State Exam and pass a test in physical education. Assessing the potential of the GTO complex as an effective tool for attracting people to systematic physical education classes, students claim that interest in passing the GTO complex standards depends on the quality of the organization of these competitions. At the same time, from 12 to 20% of the surveyed students believe that passing the GTO standards is often compulsory and therefore cannot become a motivator for physical activity. We have identified intergroup and intragroup (gender) differences in the indicators of physical fitness of students studying in different regions of Russia.
Conclusion. The results of the study actualize the search for effective technologies to increase the attractiveness of events to meet the standards of the GTO complex.
