Annotation:

The purpose of the research is to define the basic concepts of arm wrestling technique, to classify and systematize techniques in arm wrestling.

Research results and their discussion. The article analyzes the problem of formation of the conceptual apparatus and classification of arm wrestling techniques. The necessity to develop a unified terminology and to organize the existing terms is substantiated. Based on the analysis of scientific and methodical literature and competition rules the differences in the description of techniques are presented. Recommendations for the systematization of terms and concepts used in arm wrestling are given, the general principle of classification of technical moves in arm wrestling is presented. The classification presented in the paper is based on anatomical and biomechanical parameters and describes the spatial characteristics of positions of athletes’ body parts in relation to each other, sports equipment, opponent.

Conclusion. The unified classification scheme for techniques in arm wrestling will contribute to the study of the variety of basic techniques and terms, as well as will allow to organize the relations between the levels of techniques in order to develop the sport.
