Purpose of the research – determination of anthropometric and age data of leading female athletes in four types of throwing, their comparison and analysis of the dynamics of change as one of the factors that can influence the sports results of athletes.
Methods and organization of the research. The age, height and weight data and BMI of women finalists of the Olympic Games in all four types of athletics throwing were determined for the entire period of these competitions from 1928 to 2021, based on the official protocols of World Athletics.
Research results and discussion. The study showed a general tendency towards a gradual increase in all studied indicators for all types of throwing throughout the 20th century. At the same time, in the last 15-20 years there have been significant changes in the anthropometric data of top-level women throwers, which manifested themselves in an increase in weight values and BMI in shot putters and hammer throwers with a slight decrease in their height data and an increase in the average height of participants in discus throwing. At the beginning of the 21st century, a significant differentiation emerged in the height and weight indicators
of sportswomen of the shot put and discus throw, which throughout the 20th century were in the same range of values. The study found that currently leading female throwers show their best results at around 28 years of age, which is one of the highest among all athletics events.
Conclusion. The work carried out by the author made it possible to create averaged anthropometric portraits of leading world-class female throwers, which differ in all four types of athletics throwing. The results of the work should be of interest to coaches and athletics specialists from the point of view of conducting more competent sports selection at the stage of an athlete choosing his final sports specialization and building long-term training programs.
