The research purpose is to identify the characteristics of the training load in the preparatory period of female cross-country skiers.
Methods and organization of the research. The training loads of female cross-country skiers were recorded in the preparatory period based on heart rate monitor data (Polar, Finland), training plan analysis, sports diaries and protocols of subjective perception of the training load. Based on the data obtained, training load monitoring indices were calculated.
Results of the research. The study revealed that low-intensity loads in the preparatory period for female cross-country skiers accounted for 92.5-98.5% of the total cyclic load. The total volume of load in relative terms of the time spent on one day of the microcycle ranged from 3 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 49 minutes, while on some days it could reach 5.5 hours/day. The volume of strength load varied in direction, so at the general preparatory stage, strength loads were aimed at hypertrophy of muscle fibers; at the special preparatory stage – at the development of fast and maximum strength. Loads for developing strength endurance aimed at stabilizing the core muscles are performed throughout the preparatory period. The volume of strength loads is reduced by the end of the special preparatory stage.
Conclusion. Training load indices can reflect a higher degree of training impact than the values of the total volume of load performed. Indices that use subjective perception of load can reflect individual responses to training loads as primary responses in the development of fatigue.
