The article presents the results of a theoretical study of the structure of shooting sports in Russia, which is based on the generalization of retrospective and current information on bullet and skeet shooting, archery and crossbow shooting, practical shooting, and long-range shooting.

The research purpose is to theoretically substantiate the classification of shooting sports, in which the types of weapons, shooting direction, sports disciplines and their affiliation with the Olympic movement were taken into account as classification features.

Organization and methods of the research. The research was conducted in January-August 2024 and included theoretical analysis and generalization of data from specialized literature; collection, analysis and systematization of documentation; study of competition rules and regulations for types of shooting sports. General logical methods of theoretical research were used: content analysis, synthesis, abstraction, generalization, induction, deduction, systematization.

Research results and their discussion. Historical information about each type of shooting sports and a brief description of the disciplines developed are presented, indicating the types of weapons used, distances, types of exercises, as well as their inclusion in the Olympic Games program. Based on the generalization of the information provided, our vision of a possible classification of shooting sports is proposed.

Conclusion. The proposed classification of shooting sports is aimed at systematizing its structure, which in the long term can contribute to streamlining the regulation of its development and developing the idea of creating a unified Federation of Shooting Sports of Russia.
