ASSESSMENT OF THE DYNAMICS OF SUCCESS IN WOMEN'S HIGH-PERFORMANCE ATHLETICS THROWING (1 Mb, pdf) Read
Authors:
Sidorenko Alexander Sergeevich
Annotation:

Considering that women's track and field throwing in the middle of the twentieth century was one of the leading domestic types of athletics, the purpose of the research was to assess the success of domestic javelin throwers, discus and shot putters at the Olympic Games and the World Cup, as well as general trends in the development of these types in the period 1928-2023.

As research methods, the author conducts a comparative analysis and assessment of the dynamics of the results of the best domestic and forein throwers at all Olympic Games and World Championships in athletics.

The research results show that, according to the data obtained, the best results in all considered types of women's throwing were shown in the 1980s, after which they declined. The main reasons for the regression of results in women's throwing events include the termination of the functioning of the state system of training track and field athletes in socialist countries, which dominated women's throwing events on the international arena until the late 1980s, and the constant tightening of anti-doping requirements. Currently, a slight increase in results is observed only among the winners in discus throwing, while the results of leading track and field athletes in javelin throwers and shot putters are slightly but steadily declining. Soviet athletes dominated shot put and consistently performed successfully in discus and javelin throws, but in the post-Soviet period, Russia's success in these events is episodic, with successful performances alternating with failures. The early 2000s and early 2010s can be considered successful periods for Russian throwers.

Conclusion. The work performed by the author allowed to create an idea of the main trends in the development of women's athletics throwing of the highest achievements. The results of the work may be of interest to coaches and athletics specialists in terms of predicting the results, capabilities and prospects of domestic throwers at the present stage.
