Annotation:

The purpose of the research – to provide a comprehensive understanding of research on the cognitive-perceptual skills of football referees and the factors that can significantly influence the cognitive system, and to provide direction for further research.

Materials and research methods. The research was based on the analysis of modern international scientific researches considering psychological aspects of professional training of football referees, in particular perceptual-cognitive skills. The method of theoretical analysis and generalization of data was used in the research. The cognitive aspect of professional training of football referees is the object of the study. The subject of the study is a set of cognitive-perceptual skills of referees.

Research results. The literature review systematically addresses questions that comprehensively highlight findings from the study of perceptual-cognitive skills in football referees within contemporary international literature. The initial section introduces the topic of cognitive aspects of professional expertise in the context of refereeing activities, focusing on decision-making and game management. Following this, a methodological discussion unfolds, considering both general cognitive skills typically examined in laboratory settings and specific cognitive skills that demand high ecological validity due to the requirements of realistic experimental procedures. The review concludes with an analysis of factors influencing referees' cognitive skills, particularly perceptual abilities framed within the concept of embodied cognition. This analytical work does not aim to provide an exhaustive meta-analysis but seeks to outline the current state of research on psychological factors, with a focus on the perceptual-cognitive skills of football referees as discussed in contemporary international literature.

Conclusion. The analysis identified key research directions on football referees that will contribute to developing a more comprehensive and scientifically based approach to training process design. This development aims to better prepare referees for their duties and improve the quality of their decisions on the football field.
