The purpose – comparative analysis of the volume and distribution of training loads of various types during the preparatory period for elite cross-country skiers over a number of years.

Methods and organization of the research. Training performance indicators of 13 elite cross-country skiers during the preparation periods of the 2017-2026 seasons were analysed. Statistical analysis and data visualisation in the R environment were employed.

Results and discussion. The indicators of the training process were analysed and the distribution of training loads across different seasons was highlighted. Differences in the periodisation of training loads during the summer months across two Olympic cycles were identified. In the 2023-2026 Olympic cycle, the total training load volume was distributed significantly more evenly, with the coefficient of variation decreasing from 16.4% to 13.7%. An increase in strength training loads at the beginning of the preparatory period, as well as a more even distribution of aerobic-strength training methods, was observed in the 2024-2026 seasons.

Conclusion. Statistically significant differences were identified in the average training volumes for roller skiing, skiing, and strength-aerobic training during the preparatory periods of the two Olympic cycles. However, the training volume indicators were not correlated with the athletes’ performance.
