Article
Ankle and foot pathologies are a common problem among ballet dancers, due to high mechanical loads, the specifics of dance technique and the early start of training. Despite the presence of a number of author-based rehabilitation approaches, there are no standardized (consensus) protocols that take into account the specifics of ballet and are approved by the professional medical community.
Research purpose: to summarize and analyze modern scientific and practical approaches to the rehabilitation of ballet dancers after ankle and foot injuries.
Research methods and organization. A narrative review was conducted in accordance with CINAR guidance. Literature searches were performed in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The selection criteria were publications from 01.01.2016 to 04.01.2026. The quality of included reviews was assessed using the SANRA scale.
Research results and discussion. The final sample included 5 narrative reviews. The analysis showed that modern rehabilitation techniques are multimodal and phased, with an emphasis on the restoration of specific movements in ballet. The key components are: muscle strengthening, proprioceptive training, plyometrics, neuromuscular rehabilitation, as well as the integration of non-biomechanical strategies.
Conclusion. Modern approaches to the rehabilitation of ballet dancers after ankle and foot injuries are characterized by phasing, multimodality and orientation to the specifics of dance load.
