The purpose of the research was to conduct a comparative analysis of allele frequency of 50 genetic markers associated with physical qualities in highly qualified football players and in a control group.
Materials and research methods. A group of football players (n=18) from the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports, and Tourism team, aged 20.4±1.7 years, with qualifications ranging from the First Sports Grade to Candidate for Master of Sports, was examined. The control group was formed based on data from the "1000 Genomes" project (European population). DNA was extracted from whole blood using a sorbent-based method. Genotyping for 50 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was performed using multiplex PCR followed by hybridization on low-density biochips. Analysis of allele frequency distribution was performed using the χ² test.
Research results. Football players showed a statistically significantly higher frequency of both markers associated with speed-strength qualities: rs939787A (DMD), rs852918T (GPC5), rs11549465T (HIF1A), rs7582693T (LRPPRC), rs699C (AGT); as well as for markers associated with endurance: rs4341C (ACE), rs17685537A (near SMIM20), rs2070744T (NOS3). A predominance of the rs17070145*T allele of the KIBRA gene, which influences cognitive functions (memory and spatial thinking), was also found compared to the control group individuals.
Conclusion. The obtained data indicate a specific distribution of genetic markers in highly qualified football players, characterized by a predominance of alleles associated with the development of speed-strength qualities, endurance, and cognitive functions.
