The large volume of primary data on competitive performances of athletes of the Republic of Mordovia does not allow to assess the level of their achievements and the structure of disciplines in comparison with representatives of other regions of the country, as well as to reflect the dynamics of the development of various types of athletics among athletes in the region.
The purpose is to assess the level and dynamics of sports achievements of athletes representing the Republic of Mordovia for the period from 2016 to 2020.
Methods and organization of the research: theoretical analysis of historical and reference literature on the research topic, analysis of documentary materials, methods of mathematical statistics. The analysis was carried out according to data covering a 5-year period from 2016 to 2020, which are updated in real time in the "Athletes ratings" section of the Unified Information System. Based on the primary data (date, event, athlete, coach(s), institution(s), rating position of the athlete), the quantitative, qualitative and integral indicators of athletes, coaches and organizations representing the Republic of Mordovia were determined. The analysis was carried out in 24 events.
Results and discussion. The dynamics of the number of representatives of the Republic of Mordovia in the Russian Athletics Federation (RAF) rating for a 5-year period has a positive trend, with the exception of throwing events. A significant predominance of representatives of race walking in the men's and women's ratings of the RAF in comparison with other groups of events was revealed. Higher numbers of athletes are present in female race walking rankings. Among men, along with race walking, a fairly large number of athletes are represented in the running ranking. The least represented are male and female throwing, as well as heptathlon. The dynamics of the average place of Mordovian athletes over a 5-year period is slightly negative, with the exception of a consistently high level of race walkers. Noticeable decline in 2018-2019 manifests itself in running and throwing events.
Conclusion. The most successful event among Mordovian athletes is invariably race walking. In 2020, the most successful running disciplines were 10000, 5000 and 1500 meters. In jumping events, the most successful is the high jump, and in throwing – the hammer throw. The analysis made it possible to identify the current state of athletics in the region (in general, by event groups and by individual events), the prospects for its development, which, in turn, will help to provide strategic planning for the athletics development.
