The article presents the results of a laboratory experiment on the inclusion of the applied game “Intellectual Biathlon” (hereinafter – IB) into the content of bullet shooting classes. IB belongs to the dynamic pursuit games “SONOR” which have been developed in the educational institutions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) since the 90s of the twentieth century. The applied aspect of the game is that its participants indicate their movements on the playing field with air rifle shots at the cells allowed for making a move. At the stage of the experiment's conception, it was assumed that the variation of targets in the playing field, well-coordinated team interactions of students, thinking over the tactics of the game and the desire to win would contribute to the formation of shooting skills, improve shooting accuracy, increase interest in attending classes and motivation, as well as socialization of group members.
The research purpose is to increase the effectiveness of bullet shooting classes with students of non–physical education specialties by means of the applied game IB.
Organization and methods of research. The study was conducted in the 2022-23 academic year at a shooting range on the basis of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of the North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov (hereinafter – NEFU). It was attended by 69 NEFU students of non-physical education specialties attending bullet shooting classes according to the syllabus of the elective subjects in physical education. Three groups were formed - two experimental and a control one. In the experimental groups (EG-1, n=12; EG-2, n=14), two variations of the IB training methodology were tested, while in the control group (CG, n=43), the game was not used. The following methods were used in the course of the study: laboratory experiment, control tests, questionnaire survey, analysis of educational work records, methods of mathematical and statistical data processing.
Research results and their discussion. According to the results of the study, out of the two tested variants of the technique, option No.1 turned out to be more effective, as evidenced by significantly higher rates of shooting accuracy and attendance of classes among EG-1 students compared to those from EG-2 and CG students. In the CG, positive dynamics were also revealed in terms of shooting accuracy, but it is less pronounced than in the EG-1. No noticeable changes were detected in the EG-2. Experimental classes did not significantly affect the personal motivation of students to engage in physical education and sports.
Conclusion: It is advisable to continue work on improving the organizational aspects of using the applied game IB in bullet shooting classes with students.
