The research purpose is to explore differences in the kinematics of V2 skating technique of top-level biathletes who are different by competition results.
Methods and organization of the research. Athletes of Russian national team were divided in two groups according to IBU ranking named “top” (n=8) and “reserve” (n=9). Sagittal video recording (50 fps) was carried out at World Cup races. The kinematic parameters were averaged for each athlete in all races during two-year period and normalized to equal speed.
Results and their discussion. As a result of speed normalization, it was determined that biathletes of the “top” group had (p< 0.05): less length of cycle, but higher frequency, more short poling and leg push time, less decynchronization between poling and leg push, more vertical body position. The “top” group had a less angle, but a higher range of motion in the knee joint, a less angle at the beginning of poling, a smaller range of motion of the shoulder joint, and a shorter free gliding phase with a statistical power of 80-94% and the medium effect size.
Conclusion. Qualitative analysis based on the data obtained provides a possibility to assume that athletes of the “top” group differ by more effective position of body mass center at the beginning and during poling, “energy saving” of the upper body and the arms through more effective involving of the core muscles and more vertical body position, reducing of a pressure on the ski at the moment of pushing, decreasing the time of gliding on both skis and decreasing the time of desynchronization.
