SPORT EVENT TOURISM: TOURIST MOTIVATIONS AND BARRIERS TO TRAVELING (ACCORDING TO FOREIGH RESEARCH-BASED MATERIALS). (0.21 Mb, pdf) Read

Annotation:

Purpose of the research. Revealing in the context of marketing important behavioral characteristics of tourists attending major sporting events, based on the study of foreign publications on the issues of tourist motivation and barriers to sport event traveling.

Research methods and organization. The author carried out a critical analysis and generalization of a number of scientific theses of foreign authors regarding the tourist motivations for visiting cities and regions during major sport events and the perceived potential barriers to such tourist trips. The author used mainly English-language literary sources, including monographs, collections on relevant topics, and the following journals: Annals of Tourism Research, Event Management, Journal of Sport & Tourism, Journal of Sport Management, Journal of Travel Research, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Tourism Management etc.

Research results. The article contains a brief description and author's assessment of a number of significant scientific theses of foreign researchers, mainly marketing scientists, on issues related to tourist motivation in the field of sport event tourism, and possible barriers to its development.

Conclusion. The main behavioral characteristics of tourists in the field of sport event tourism, identified on the example of foreign countries, allow efficient use of modern marketing tools for the more successful development of this type of tourism in Russia, taking into account its characteristics as a multinational, multi-confessional state with huge distances between cities.
