The article presents the results of a pilot study aimed at investigating the peculiarities of the functional state of the musculoskeletal system and peripheral hemodynamics in children with spastic diplegia engaged in innovative forms of motor activity.
Methods and research design. Three groups of children were examined: Group1 (comparisons) – children not attending additional extracurricular physical fitness and health classes (n=27); Group 2 – children engaged in alpine skiing (n=7); Group 3 – children engaged in indoor skydiving (wind tunnel flights) (n=8). All childrenwere diagnosed with cerebral palsy: spasticdiplegia (G80.1). Rheovasography recordings ("thigh-calf", "shoulder-forearm"), muscle tone according to the Ashworth scale, and muscle strength and range of motion in joints on six-point scales were assessed.
The research results and theirdiscussion. The functionalstate of the examined childrencorresponded to the first andsecond functional classesaccording to GMFCS. There were no statistically significant differences between the three groups in terms of muscle tone and strength, and range of motion in joints. Rheovasography was chosen due to its non-invasiveness and relative ease of use. This study did not employ methods for the direct assessment or correction of the influence of existing spasticity on the parameters of this research method.
Conclusion. The study revealed differences in rheovasography parameters, which likely reflect peculiarities of peripheral hemodynamics in children with cerebral palsy training under different environmental conditions. The obtained rheovasography parameters in children engaged in alpine skiing indicated reduced blood flow and increased peripheral vascular resistance, while in children engaged in indoor skydiving, signs of impaired filling of large vessels and worsened tone of small vessels were identified. Undoubtedly, the obtained results are preliminary and require confirmation in further studies.
